The character keeps repeating itself or looping

Frustrating, and usually fixable. Try these roughly in order.

1. Delete the repetition. Remove every repeated message, including your own reply above the first repeat, then refresh. This alone often breaks the pattern, because the AI is copying a pattern it can see in the conversation.

2. Change direction. After deleting, take the scene somewhere genuinely different rather than continuing as before.

3. Edit the AI's replies. Manually rewriting 3–4 replies before the repetition began gives the AI a different pattern to follow.

4. Use a Director Mode command to force a change:

/cmd {{char}} agrees, but Elara becomes jealous and tries to spend more time with {{user}}.

5. Switch models temporarily. Change to a different model, regenerate, continue for 2–3 messages, then switch back. See article 4.10.

6. Regenerate properly. Instead of hitting regenerate repeatedly, copy your last message, delete both the AI's reply and your message, then send it again. Regenerating rephrases the same idea; re-sending makes the AI think fresh.

7. Clone the conversation from the last point where things were working, and carry on from there in a new direction. Most users find this the most reliable option. See article 8.7.

8. Add detail to your own replies. Repetition often means the AI doesn't have much to work with. A concrete action or a new piece of information gives it somewhere to go.

Please rate the bad replies. Use the 1-star rating and choose Repetitive. That feedback goes directly to our AI team and is how we improve the models. Swiping past a bad reply tells us nothing.

If none of it works, starting a new chat is sometimes the only option — and some users find a chat sorts itself out after a day, so it's worth coming back to.
