A persona is who you are in a conversation. The AI reads it and writes accordingly.
How many you can have:

A persona costs roughly 250 tokens of your context window, so keep it focused.
Personas are moderated too, including persona avatars. If a persona won't save, work through article 6.4 — the causes are the same.
Personas are useful for setting tone. Adding a line establishing that all characters are adults and consenting to explicit content helps keep scenes on track — see article 4.7.
