"Something went wrong" when saving a character

This usually means our moderation system has been triggered by something in the character.

It's automated, so it isn't always right — but it's flagged something, and the fastest route through is to work out what.

Review your content

Look for strong or ambiguous wording in the name, title, greeting and personality, and rewrite anything that could be read differently from how you intended. Our Community Guidelines set out what isn't permitted, and section 7 of this help centre covers the areas that come up most often — age and appearance, family relationships, real people, and animals.

Be explicit about adult age. If a character's adult age isn't clearly stated and anything about them is ambiguous, that ambiguity is often what's being flagged. Stating it plainly resolves a lot of cases.

Write numbers as words. Heights and measurements written as digits are occasionally misread. "Five foot six" rather than 5'6".

Work out whether it's the text or the image

Temporarily replace the entire personality with just "Adult person" and try to save.

• It saves → the problem is in your text
• It still fails → the problem is the avatar

If it's the avatar, try a different image, and see article 5.7. Our system is more sensitive to tight headshots than to fuller images.

If you're confident it's a false positive

Keep resubmitting. After around 3–4 attempts, the system offers to send your character to a human moderator. That's a deliberate escape hatch so creators aren't stuck behind the automated check.
