Why there's a character limit on the definition fields

Deliberate. The definition shares the same context window as your conversation, so a longer definition directly reduces how many messages a character can remember.

If you need more depth, a Lorebook is the right tool — it gives you 5,000 entries of up to 2,000 characters each, and pulls content in only when it's relevant, rather than occupying context permanently.
